Catherine Johnstone, Resident Counselor
Catherine is a resident counselor who specializes in general mental health issues including, depression, anxiety, and self-esteem concerns among others. She is passionate about establishing a trusting relationship with her clients to work through issues they may be facing. In her work, she pulls upon the client's personal strengths to help create a positive life. Catherine also specializes in binge eating disorders and obesity. She uses a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness in treating clients who may have struggled with weight issues. Her healthy strategy with clients includes the Beck’s Diet Plan in which clients learn a new way of thinking about food. Her educational approach helps inform clients on various weight loss techniques and encourages a healthy lifestyle.
Education and Experience
Catherine earned her undergrad from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a focus in psychology. She is currently working on her Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health from Walden University. Catherine is completing her practicum with Westhampton Family Psychologists, where she is sharpening her clinical skills and gaining field experience through clinical observation, supervision and direct patient care. Catherine relocated from Charlotte to Richmond four years ago. She lives in Richmond with her husband and two beagle pups, Charlie and Chloe. She joined Westhampton Family Psychologists in 2017.
